The Committee on Undergraduate Education voted to amend the current implementation of the fine arts/humanities distribution requirement of MU's General Education Architecture to allow students to count up to three (3) credit hours from among approved courses involving personal practice in the discipline (courses dedicated to the development of discipline-specific skills). CUE agreed to broaden, in consultation with the departments involved, the approved course list in the fine arts to include additional courses in music, art, theatre, and creative writing. Departments offering coursework in these areas are asked at this time to recommend those courses involving personal practice in the discipline that they view as appropriate for general education. (Note: having a course appear in this list does not indicate that the course is necessarily available to large numbers of students, only that non-majors may be given permission to enroll and that the course will count toward the humanities/fine arts distribution requirement when a student is allowed to register for the course. Departments may still require consent of instructor or department for registration in these courses. However, the courses descriptions should not indicate that the courses are for majors only).
