The purpose of this course is to give students a contextual framework for engaging with the visual arts, focusing on the 20th century and today. Through lectures, videos, readings, and more we build a foundation for thinking, talking, and writing about art, especially works and movements that might be challenging for the novice to understand. Topics such as empathy, looking and perception, identity, politics, and money in the arts will be covered. Prerequisites: Honors eligibility required.
