An introduction to communications media in ancient Greece and Rome, from the invention of the alphabet to the fall of the Roman empire. Special attention will be paid to the material bases for communication, the social uses of information, and the relationship between communications technology and political power. Prerequisites: Honors eligibility required. Recommended: AMS 1060.
