This course is an introduction to the problems of understanding, analyzing, and writing about art and visual culture. Examining a wide range of twentieth and twenty-first century visual culture, it investigates the nature of visual representation; the different ways observers, consumers, cultural critics, and historians interpret visual images; and the manifold ways visual cultures shape social norms and cultural values. Graded on A-F basis only. Prerequisites: Honors eligibility required.
