Art History - Visual Studies

Survey of the visual culture of different regions in the Americas with an emphasis on the periods before and during colonization. The course examines art, architecture, craft, and other visual objects to explore interactions between different cultures and societies. Particular attention will be paid to the roles of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, and politics in the creation of these works. Discussion will also address how the study of the region has historically reflected inequities among groups. Recommended: ARH_VS 1120, ARH_VS 1130, or ARH_VS 2830 or equivalent.
