(same as POL_SC 1704). This course is oriented toward the development of concepts and theory in the study of black politics. The readings in the course are divided into political science categories such as ideology, electoral participation, movement politics and public policy. In addition, major periods in black political history are examined in the light of the behavioral and theoretical concerns prominent in political science. Black Politics seeks an increased understanding of Black Diaspora history as a group and the various political effects of the history of slavery and racism; and (2) studies Black Diaspora struggles for racial justice, civil rights, political equality, and fundamental respect in the face of both explicit and structural or systematic racism.
