Black Studies
College of Arts and Science
This course explores the intersectionality of the politics of race, gender, sexuality and health from methods that locate the historical and contemporary experiences of Black women and girls as they seek bodily freedom, autonomy, and reproductive justice (RJ). We will draw on examples from Africa and the African diaspora (U.S., the Caribbean, and Latin America) as we engage the main debates in reproductive justice around key issues: reproductive health and rights; sexual autonomy and choice; sexual violence; the right to bear children; abortion and HIV/AIDS. Graded on A-F basis only.
