Film Studies - Visual Studies

This course focuses on films with a significant connection to Missouri – whether set in and/or shot in Missouri, or involving Missouri-born artists – and examines issues related to the state’s history and culture. Films include Meet Me in St. Louis, Winter’s Bone, Ride with the Devil, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, King of the Hill, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, among others. Each film is examined from the perspectives of form, narrative, genre, and historical and cultural context. Graded on A-F basis only. Recommended: ENGLSH 1000 and either ENGLSH 1800 or FILMS_VS 1800.
