An examination of what shapes the Earth system today and through time, including its materials (e.g., rocks and minerals), resources (e.g., energy, mineral, water, and soil), and hazards (e.g., earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, etc.). Processes discussed include plate tectonics, volcanism, the water cycle, and climate, among others. Course includes an in-class field trip to Rock Bridge Memorial State Park where the interactions of surface water, groundwater, and rocks will be examined to explore potential hazards like sinkholes and water pollution. For the Mizzou Online sections, there will not be required lectures, lab, and field trip.
