Who are we, on this campus? College represents a period in our lives in which we are expected to form our own relationships, find “our people,” and transition into the next stage of our lives. These processes, however, are not merely the result of choice. They are shaped by historical-structural forces as much as by our own wants and needs. Focusing our attention on the American college campus, we will ask: In what ways does this social institution challenge and reproduce extant forms of inequity? What mechanisms, if any, could be employed to mitigate structural barriers to college access, completion, and success? We will draw on numerous behavioral and social science disciplines, using the college campus to answer the fundamental question: who are we? Prerequisites: Honors eligibility required.
