(same as POL_SC 2310). This course offers a non-technical introduction to how artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are being integrated into public policy decision-making. Students will explore real-world applications of AI in areas such as social policy, education, foreign policy, national security, and criminal justice. The course examines both the opportunities and challenges of AI in government. We will pay particular attention to the ethical implications of these technologies, and to how AI systems reflect core public values. This course will prepare students to work with AI systems in public policy careers. Graded on A-F basis only.
