This course examines the relationship between religion and politics within the context of the United States. It considers a variety of topics from first amendment issues, to religion’s influence in electoral politics, to how religion inspires community organizing around various issues. In doing so, the course explores the history of a variety of contemporary US political issues, ranging from gender equality and labor organizing to immigration and climate change, while situating these American issues in a global context. Recommended: Previous enrollment in a religious studies course.
