This course is designed to provide knowledge and skill development for work with older adults and their families. It offers an intensive examination of the concepts and skills needed for effective social work practice with these populations. In particular, sociological, psychological, political, and economic factors affecting older adults will be examined as they relate to intervention, programmatic, and policy responses. Special attention will be given to assessment and intervention from macro, mezzo, and micro perspectives. The interrelationship between the aging person, the family, and society is explored since these factors affect all levels of practice. Content in this course related to the social and economic mission of the School of Social Work. Prerequisites: Junior standing.
