Amish Communities – Honors/Writing Intensive

This course focuses on the guiding values of the Amish such as family and community and how these values are lived out through rules, rituals, and symbols. We explore how and why they resist certain aspects and embrace other aspects of modern American life and how these decisions vary between Amish communities. Students will develop critical thinking about human culture and their own values and assessments of life and well-being. Prerequisites: Honors Eligibility required. Recommended: RU_SOC 1000, SOCIOL 1000 or ANTHRO 1000.
