Adoption, Child Welfare and the Family, 1850-Present

This interdisciplinary U.S. history course will address topics such as: changing legal and social meaning of adoption since 1850; historical connections between adoption and poverty, family, gender race, sexuality, class, fertility, identity; and more recent issues such as transnational adoption.
